GENERAL STUDIES – Paper – I (200 marks) – 100 Questions

Exam Duration: Two hours

  4. Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public
  5. Policy, Rights issues.

  7. Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  8. General issues on Environment ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change- that do not require subject specialization.

GENERAL STUDIES – Paper – II (200 marks) – 80 Questions

Exam Duration: Two hours


  1. Comprehension.
  2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills.

  4. Decision making and problem solving.
  5. General mental ability.
  6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level),

The Preliminary Examination (Prelims) consists of two papers - General Studies (GS) Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT). Also, it will consist of the multiple-choice objective types question, with a provision for a negative marking of 0.25 marks. The Prelims are of qualifying nature, and the marks scored in Paper-II are not counted for the Mains exam.
